Our Philosophy

Holding Hands is dedicated to the intellectual, social, emotional and physical development of our students. Our innovative program provides the opportunity to master important basic skills necessary for emergent reading, writing and mathematics as well as helps students develop the ability to understand a wide variety of subject areas from the arts to sciences. Beyond acquiring a solid foundation for academic skills, we want them to:

  • Be curious, active and skilled learners who feel compelled to ask questions, know how to find out what they want to know, and are able to set learning goals and be able to fulfill them.
  • Be free to use their knowledge and skills resourcefully
  • Relate to each other in a cooperative spirit, sharing discoveries and enjoying each other’s company
  • Sustain the sparkle shown by our young children as they work towards mastery
Because of our dual commitment to a standard of excellence and to the varied needs of each student, the school encourages achievement while providing an emotionally supportive atmosphere conducive to growth, exploration, thinking, evaluating, and questioning. Because each child is an accepted member of the Holding Hands community and his or her accomplishments are seen as important, the child develops feelings of self-respect and self-worth.

The importance of each child contributes to the school community of individuals joined by shared attitudes and values based on respect. We encourage our students to extend to others the support and concern they receive. This fosters the development of caring people who take an increasingly active interest in the world around them.
